Numeracy
Numeracy is a life skill that allows each of us to make informed choices and decisions in all aspects of everyday life. It impacts activities such as financial maths (mortgage, utilities contract, checking invoices or wage slips, working out a monthly budget), and daily activities (planning a journey, cooking a meal, reading a newspaper, or playing sport).
Numeracy affects all aspects of our lives and helps us develop key character traits: confidence, curiosity, ambition, resilience, and respect. Numeracy is the ability to recognise and apply maths concepts in all areas of life.
Numeracy skills involve understanding numbers, counting, solving number problems, measuring, estimating, sorting, noticing patterns, adding and subtracting numbers, etc.
At Breda Academy it is our aim to develop students' numeracy ability as much as possible, so that all students become logical thinkers and problem solvers. We believe that all students at Breda Academy should have the opportunity to reach a level of functional numeracy appropriate to their daily lives.
