Welcome to Breda Academy

Our School Community!

Breda Academy is a vibrant and flourishing school community in its 10th year which continues to grow and build on our enduring achievements and move from strength to strength! It is a vibrant, diverse, and successful all-ability school in South Belfast with 825 students aged 11 to 19 and 95 members of staff. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming, warm, friendly, and caring school where we place a very high value on establishing and nurturing strong positive relationships between students, staff, and parents/carers.

Students are expected to be safe, polite, and ready to learn and develop core values and behaviours such as respect, responsibility, charity, and kindness, as we give these ‘values’ equal importance to attaining academic results. Developing these values will also help our students to be more open minded, tolerant, forgiving, supportive, and caring of each other regardless of gender, background, ethnicity, culture and/or religion.

We take pride in celebrating the many talents and achievements of our students, and in particular reward their effort and positive attitude, and encourage them to learn from their mistakes, as it is our central belief that much can be accomplished through hard work and by not giving up.

In the past eight years, due to the combined hard work and resilience of our students and staff, our examination results have continued to increase significantly. In August 2025, 96% of Year 12 students attained 5 A* - C GCSE/Level 2 grades and in the past 4 Years 96% of 400 Year 12 students have attained 5 A* - C GCSE/Level 2 grades. Also in 2025, 73% of our Year 14 students attained 3 A* to C A Level/Level 3 grades, meaning that in the past 4 Years 70% of 350 Year 14 students have attained 3 A* to C A Level/Level 3 grades.

We continue to expand as a community and in September we welcomed 130 new Year 8 students who are now flourishing and enjoying school life. We are very proud that the Academy offers all students a 7-year learning journey and our 6th Form continues to grow and thrive, and we currently have a record 184 Year 13 and 14 students studying A-Level and Level 3 qualifications and taking advantage of our new study centre with its advanced ICT facilities and a full-time member of staff as their study supervisor.

We place our students at the heart of all we do and provide them with excellent pastoral care to promote their wellbeing, tailored support to meet their needs and high-quality teaching to ensure they make continual progress in each key stage of their learning. The Academy provides an inclusive and diverse curriculum and a wide range of qualifications and enrichment opportunities to develop our students’ education, skills, and resilience to be successful lifelong learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens.

It is our ambition at Breda Academy that students are ‘Learners Today and Leaders Tomorrow’ and when they leave us, they will go on to be future change makers and take an active role in shaping and making Northern Ireland and the world a better place for us all. To quote John F Kennedy the 35th President of America; “Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.”

Please come and join our community!

Day 4 Today was sadly our last day here in Munich, although we got a tour of the Allianz arena which was a very pleasant experience. We got to see the home of Bayern München first hand; receiving a tour of the stands, the stadium, locker rooms and gym. It was really cool. We then went around Munich to get food, specifically the food market we went to on Saturday. After that (and my personal favourite part of the day) we went to the Wow museum. It was amazing; there was a lot of optical illusions and brainteasers. There was a lot to do inside, including photo booths and riddles you could attempt and the most popular room was the light room, which was full of mirrors and the lights shone all around the room to the beat of the music. It was really mesmerising and I am nearly 100% sure we all enjoyed ourselves. Now after a busy, full and fun packed weekend, we have arrived at the airport and are all exhausted and ready to go home. Thank you to Miss Anderson, Mr Mallon and Mr Fisher for absolutely everything this weekend and making this trip possible - we all had an amazing time! By Demi and Mollymae
✨ Special Guest Announcement! ✨ We’re thrilled to share that Oscar winner James Martin and his presenter dad Ivan Martin will be joining us to support Breda Academy’s Fashion Show, raising funds for Mencap on Saturday 28th February 💙 Their support means the world as we recognise both Breda Academy and Mencap NI at School Road celebrating 10 years. Munich Trip Day 3 On Sunday we got a lie in and then had another lovely breakfast. Then it was all aboard the bus for a 2 hour journey to Nuremberg to visit the museum and the rallying grounds. It was wonderful to see the Bavarian Villages and churches with their sloping roofs. On arrival in Nuremberg we went to the Museum and learnt about the half finished building similar to the colosseum. We then took a Ms Anderson and Mr Mallon led tour to the Zepplin Field which is where the rallies were held. Though these were in a state of disrepair, we were able to climb the stairs and appreciate the vastness of these surroundings, bringing to life the films & text book pictures we have studied. Walking around the lake, some snowball fun was had (not started by Ms Anderson at all!) We drove through the old town and learnt how the city was painstakingly restored after the allied bombing during WW2. In the evening some stayed to eat at the hotel and some went on a food walk with Mr Mallon and Ms Anderson, stopping to listen to a Ukrainian orchestra and appreciate the beauty of Marienplatz at night.
Munich Trip Day 2- Today we went to Dachau concentration camp. It was very interesting to see everything and a lot to learn, although it was very upsetting. We learnt a few things about their living conditions, sleeping conditions and how they were treated. There was a lot to see, it was very interesting seeing the gas chambers, bunkers and memorials for the prisoners who lost their lives in these terrible conditions. After seeing the camps we then went on to get a tour of Munich, which was very insightful! We got to see many famous landmarks around Munich, including Hofbräuhaus beer hall, the Munich parliament building (Bayerischer Landtag), Marianplatz. We went to the food market and everyone got different foods from around the world. We tried everything from bratwurst and ox sandwiches to lychee and starfruit. We also then went window shopping along Maxmillian strasse with all the designer shops, we had to stop Miss Anderson from buying all the Chanel bags! We also went and saw the sites of the British allied bombing of Munich. Then we went neon mini golf, it was so fun, we got neon glasses and got to put neon paint on our faces it was very cool, Overall, we had a full packed day and we are all wrecked!!! We will all be sleeping very well tonight. by Demi and Mollymae
Today we celebrated and thanked our amazing students for their support at Breda Bonanza and Open Night, with their contributions making both events so successful. We’ve received wonderful feedback praising how helpful, dedicated, and enthusiastic our students were throughout both events. They truly represented our school with pride, and it was a pleasure to celebrate their hard work and positive spirit today. Thank you everyone! #proudtobebreda
