Literacy permeates every area of experience and is not only essential for a pupil’s individual development, but enables them to contribute to society, the economy, and the world around them. Literacy enhances self-esteem, employability and life chances, and helps break the cycle of social and economic disadvantage.

We recognise that all modes of language contribute to the development of literacy:  Talking, Listening, Reading, Writing, and in addition the ability to read, understand, and use information in multiple formats and platforms, including traditional print and on-screen material.
