Wider Key Skills
Subject Overview:
Wider Key Skills provides pupils with skills necessary for success in a range of activities in education and training, world of work. As employment opportunities change, our young people are increasingly likely to make several career changes throughout their working lives, the value of this programme is becoming recognised, skills which individuals can call upon to apply to changing situations, in their work or community, whenever required. This two year programme of study which is totally course work based, credits our students with two Grade B GCSE equivalences.
Key Stage 4 Qualification Courses and Programmes of Study:
In Key Stage 4 throughout years 11 and 12 students gain confidence in researching, using their initiative and enhancing both team building and presentation skills to complete a series of assignments. The programme of study encompasses a wide variety of activities, all of which provide the students with conclusive evidence for their final portfolio. Our students are encouraged to work with visiting outside agencies, which provides them with the opportunity to broaden their horizons and gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of life beyond the classroom.
We also offer Prince’s Trust Certificate in Personal Development and Employability, as an optional subject in Years 11 and 12. This two-year programme allows students to gain and develop a breadth of personal skills, qualities and attitudes required by employers across a range of sectors. The modules are structured to allow access to a variety of topics and skills. Students complete a portfolio of coursework at Level 2, which allows them to achieve the equivalent of two B grades at GCSE level.
